How to turn your handicap into cash

Many of the disabled often conclude that they are unlucky in life. They go through life as defeated people, failing to reach all the possibilities that life has in store for them. But the reality is that there are abundant opportunities available to the average disabled individual. Whether the person is deaf, dumb, blind, paralyzed, etc., the opportunities are still available anyway.

Do you notice that society often favors the disabled? Visit the bus stop, the train station, the hospital, etc., and you will see special attention to the disabled.

Take, for example, if two children went to the street to sell products (one normal and one disabled), people would generally favor the disabled vendor over the first. So the disabled must take advantage of their disadvantages. The world is designed to favor them.

I know a musician in my country, Nigeria, nobody knew him when he was a reporter in a magazine editorial. After being involved in an accident, he lost the use of his limbs and was confined to a wheelchair. But that was not the end of the story. He later discovered his talent as a musician. Did you know?

All the other people who sing his kind of music before him were abandoned by the music fanatic. He became everyone’s delight overnight. His music is no more special than others, but people were enchanted by a handicapped person who refuses to give up but sings beautiful music instead of dying of grief over losing his limbs.

The one major key anyone needs to turn disability into cash is DETERMINATION. We can see in history the example of men and women who were handicapped but turned handicaps into great success and honor.

Helen Keller was supposed to die in a world of silence. She was left dead and blind before she was two years old. But with the support of her father and her own fervent determination, she broke out of her oppression and became the center of attention. She traded her handicap for fame, international awards and mainstream success. Her life influenced so many other disabled and less privileged people.

Ludwig van Beethoven became deaf at the age of 28, but until his death he was a great composer.

Stevie Wonder was a blind man. But today he is not remembered for his blindness. With determination he was able to write his name in gold. To this day, the world is still moved by his music.

Determination is a great quality. Where talent and genius fail, determination often triumphs.

The only groups of people that can be said to be doomed are the mentally handicapped. No body part disability should be allowed to limit its potential. So go ahead, fulfill your destiny and take advantage of your handicap!
