Robert Kyosaki’s Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing with Sharon Lechter, CPA – Book Review

Title and author: Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing by Robert Kyosaki with Sharon Lechter, CPA

Content Synopsis:

This is another in a series of books that Kiyosaki and Lechter have written with the goal of teaching the novice about building wealth. It aims to teach the basics of the mindset required to be a successful investor and some of the fundamental disciplines and principles required.

You won’t find anything new or revolutionary here. The authors teach the basics about attitude, education, awareness, and various investment methods. This book can be a good starting point for someone who wants to know the basics. Kiyosaki, who has also been bankrupt, emphasizes the need to take risks to make money, but also teaches how to invest wisely and carefully. This book is not for a timid person who wants to minimize risk. It’s about building serious wealth with the attendant risks.

A lot of the ideas here are very solid, like having a solid investment plan and sticking to it and educating yourself before taking the plunge. Like all wealth advice books, it is very promising and minimizes what can go wrong. The author’s suggestions on automatic wealth should be taken with a dose of salt. While wisely made investments can pay off over time, there is always work and maintenance involved and the authors may not give it full credit.

No one should trust a book for their investment education and this one is certainly not the best of its kind. However, it is a great initial education on some of the necessary principles, as well as how to avoid some of the pitfalls.

One caveat: neither the author is a certified financial advisor nor is there independent verification of his level of investment skill or his own personal performance.

Readability/Write Quality:

This is well written. It tends to be a bit redundant. It is well organized and for the most part clearly written.

Author’s Notes:

Robert Kiyosaki is an author and investor. Sharon Lechter is a CPA and has co-authored several books in this Rich Dad series with Kiyosaki. Together they combine the school of hard-hitting wisdom that Kiyosaki has learned with some more technical financial advice from Lechter as an accountant.
