New Orleans Part I The Invitation

Oh, my dear friend, – exclaimed David. – Then you don’t know anything about New Orleans and its inhabitants. Don’t pay too much attention to Katrina. The city is completely rebuilt.

Well, I agreed to visit New Orleans, because I wanted to do this trip but I was afraid. Meanwhile I began to look for information about New Orleans, what information about this city I know. I wanted my trip to be exciting and interesting and I started making some programs of my trip. So I started going through all the travel brochures, looking for information on the Internet. But I don’t think you’ve found anything interesting or engaging that you haven’t heard before. Also, when you decide to go somewhere, don’t choose my way of preparing for the trip. You may ask me why? The answer is very simple. When we read some books about countries or cities or when we watch different movies and TV reports, we usually draw some pictures of these places in our mind. We begin to imagine something unusual or fantastic. Our minds are full of unnecessary information. But it usually turns out that reality is quietly different from our imagination. Running a few steps forward, I don’t want to say that I was very disappointed in my trip. But the image in my mind was so colorful that upon colliding with reality I received a huge, huge contrast.

So my preparations for the trip consisted of finding and reading information about New Orleans. I discovered that in each brochure is written the information that I already knew. New Orleans is synonymous with jazz, blues, Mardi Gras carnival, special cuisine, voodoo and (that’s very rare) cemeteries. I didn’t know why cemeteries are one of the most popular places in New Orleans, but visiting them was a must like visiting the most important places in the city. And I was very interested in that thing. So I had the opportunity to find out why cemeteries are the main places to visit.

Speaking of megacities as big as New York, Chicago or Washington, we have no doubts or doubts about what to see in these cities. These cities are the centers of culture and other types of life. Actually, why do tourists go to this or that city? They go to see the architecture, to the museums with the real masterpieces, to see the fashionable plays, to rest in a fancy restaurant, etc. So everything that was said above is not about New Orleans. Well, New Orleans is not part of the general tourist idea of traveling. It is not even part of the general representation of big cities with their museums, art galleries, etc. New Orleans is 35th in the United States ranking table, or was if the aftermath of the hurricane is taken into account. But the glory of this city is greater than the glory of Detroit or Houston.

So what do people go to New Orleans for? The answer is very simple. They want to walk through the French Quarter, listen to great music, visit the Voodoo Museum, go to the St. Louise Cemetery, have a delicious lunch or brunch (when it is late for breakfast and very early for lunch), to see the great event of New Orleans – the Carnival Mardi Gras, to visit the houses with the ghosts.

And believe me; I decided to go to New Orleans for the same reasons as many others. I am the man, you see, and nothing human is foreign to me. I wanted to visit the city where the holidays do not end, where the clock stops, where the constant atmosphere of pleasure reigns.
