Do you have a big dream and don’t know where to start?

What do you do if you have a big dream and don’t know where to start? This is going to sound strange. In fact, it’s going to be quite counterintuitive.

Stay still.

Go somewhere and sit down. Yes, sit down. Take the time to process this big dream that has touched your shoulder and enlisted you. Suppress the inclination to plunge headlong into the hustle and bustle. Instead, take time to get your bearings. Tune into your inner voice to hear the heartbeat of your dream and what your unique gifts, talents, and abilities bring to you.

find out.

TD Jakes, in his book Instinct, it warns us to familiarize ourselves with our new surroundings. Discover the law of the jungle before announcing to the world: “I’m here!” It can mean the difference between surviving or being eaten by a lion. It’s not because you’re flawed or on the wrong path. Life simply wants to succeed, so it gives you time to prepare.

A mentor is a great place to start! Mentors help you develop the skills and sensitivities you’ll need. They alert you to traps and the best time to go to the watering hole for a drink of water. They know the jungle and help you navigate it.

If you can’t immediately identify a person, remember that mentors come in many forms. An often underestimated resource is books. The media can also be a great mentor. YouTube videos and TEDx talks can introduce you to thought leaders and people who offer free webinars and affordable options for your development.

Move.

What I like to tell my clients is this: “Knowledge is only power if you know how to use it.” This is where a coach is most needed. He or she helps you get out of your head or run in circles to come up with a strategic plan that will get you moving in the right direction. In fact, studies show that among the many benefits of coaching, one is accelerating progress.

Enter everything.

Every part of your life has been listed by your dream. Resistance is useless. Just as a baby owns your body for 9 months, your dream owns you until it comes true. Your role is to nurture it to the end. You nurture it by taking impeccable care of yourself. Eat healthy. Take your vitamins. Visit your doctor regularly. Let others help you. Get enough sleep. Take care of your mental and emotional health.

The closer you get to your dream, the more it will require of you. Too often, dreamers increase their activity but do not strengthen their essence. Calming down, educating yourself, moving around, and being all in will help you withstand the rigors and help you look better when you arrive.
