Why natural is always the best

Recently, both natural skin care products and supplements have been making headlines around the world, and for very good reason, too. Big pharmaceutical companies, along with the mainstream beauty industry and the media, refrain from telling Joe Public that most of the products they buy are chemically laced. As the Joe public becomes increasingly aware of the harm chemicals do to their bodies, well-known household brands have begun advertising their products as natural. In some cases this is true, however in many cases as little as 5% or as much as 10% of the product itself is natural. That means that 90% to 95% of the product is still chemical in nature. Shocking news for those of us who thought we were buying natural because it said so on the label.

It is true that in the Western world we suffer from many diseases that other parts of the world do not. Some say it’s due to genetics, others claim it’s due to diet, exercise, and even mood and outlook on life in general. While I am not a medical doctor or specialist, I know that our illnesses probably stem from a combination of all of the above mixed with daily applications of chemicals.

It is also true that chemicals are wreaking havoc on our bodies and our lives. The average high street skin care product can contain up to fifteen chemicals by itself, this is not great news for our bodies as 60% of what goes on the skin goes on the skin. If we do the math, the average person uses about fifteen products on their skin daily, multiplied by fifteen and that’s a lot of chemicals entering our bodies. Then there are the chemicals that are present in our food products. News flash, Joe Public we are toxic. These chemicals affect every part of our daily lives, from health and happiness to physical and mental stress. We live in a world where everything we use and most things we eat contain some type of chemical. This is how big companies make their money.

It doesn’t stop there either. In every home there will be some type of cleaning product, most of them are nothing more than industrial strength chemicals and we use them on a daily basis without giving them any care or consideration. Most of the chemicals we use, use and eat have a cumulative effect on the body. Good for the pharmaceutical companies, bad for us. Most of our homes are toxic powerhouses fueled by media hype and TV commercials that claim that a particular product is the best way to… or the only way to achieve…

Have you ever heard of a Buddhist monk who had cancer and died? No, me neither! While it is not possible for most of us to live like a monk, it is possible to be aware of what we are thinking, doing, using, putting in and on our bodies. If you had a choice to help prevent disease or slow down the aging process, would you do it? Of course you would.

The problem lies in the lack of information available to us. In many cases, and especially with the advent of Google, the information is there, however it seems a bit crazy or off planet, and that is if you can find it in the first place. Many people, when they cover up the facts, put them together like a puzzle and come to the answer that big brother is watching us, influencing us and controlling us. While this sounds crazy, it’s not far from the truth. A truth that people should at least be aware of.

There is no doubt in my mind that we live in a chemical age and our love of all things chemical will eventually be our undoing. Not only for our physical and mental ruin but also for the ruin of our planet. It is with this in mind that I urge you to first consider what you eat, drink and use, and become better informed about the ingredients in the products you are purchasing so that you can lead a healthier and happier life.

Here is the good life!
