This is a plea from all men to his loving wife or girlfriend to let us commit to the best romantic movies to watch. We men would sit and watch the movie Overboard and Fifty First Dates, maybe I should elaborate on this.
It is a fact that women dress their best to please other women and men dress their best to please women. With that in mind, men will do anything to please women. He even watches cheesy romantic movies with our favorite girl. “Adorable” movies that men will never see alone and definitely never with their friends.
Of course, men will say yes to a romantic movie with you, but girls, you must understand that men (and I think I speak for most of us) have a limited attention span when it comes to movies. If the movie doesn’t have a car chase, a shooting, a lot of gore and gore, a scandalous comedy, or a bikini or two, our male minds will wander elsewhere. Which reminds me, please don’t ask us questions about the romance movie we just saw.
So what do you say in our next best romantic movie pick we compromise and go for a romance / comedy or romance / action or romance / comedy / action? Bikinis are not a priority!

On the water – 1987
STARRING: Kurt Russel as Dean Proffitt, Goldie Hawn as Joanna Stayton. Also Micheal Hagerty, Edward Herrmann, Katherine Helmond.
Filthy rich snob Joanna Stayton and her husband Grant Stayton III land their yacht in a small port in Oregon. Joanna the spoiled brat hires one of the locals to build a closet on her yacht. Dean Proffitt built the closet, argued with Joanna, and was thrown off the yacht, unpaid and slightly disturbed. Suddenly, Mrs. Stayton falls overboard and no one on the yacht notices. With a severe case of amnesia, they found Joanna Stayton and then put her on local television. Dean Proffitt, the struggling carpenter, sees this opportunity for revenge and sitting children, persuades the once very wealthy Mrs. Stayton that her name is Annie Proffitt and that she is his wife and also the mother of four unsavory children. The Proffitt plan works for a time before it is agreed. Very funny, a movie that you cannot miss.
Romancing The Stone – 1984
STARRING: Micheal Douglas as Jack Colton, Kathleen Turner as Joan Wilder, Danny DeVito as Ralph.
With a mysterious map in hand, Joan Wilder, a romance novelist flies in from New York and ends up in the rural jungles of Columbia. Almost murdered by the locals of Zolo, who are led by a corrupt Colombian policeman, and is saved by some kind of American hero, Jack T. Colton. Jack agrees to take Joan back to civilization, to a safe place with added obstacles such as the Most Wanted Emerald, the Mysterious Map, and a con man named Ralph who is on her trail. This thrilling jungle adventure ride offers plenty of action, comedy, and romance.
Always – 1989
STARRING: Richard Dreyfuss, John Goodman, Holly Hunter.
Steven Spielberg directed this romantic fantasy film about an aerial firefighter who dies in an accident leaving a very distraught girlfriend. The pilot returns as a ghost and helps a rookie become the best firefighting pilot, but the rookie falls in love with the dead pilot’s girlfriend. A very moving film, but also an action and comedy film.
Fifty First Dates – 19
STARRING: Adam Sandler as Henry Roth, Drew Barrymore as Lucy Whitemore, Sean Astin and Blake Clark as Lucy and Rob Schneider’s brother and father.
Of the best romantic movies to watch, this one leans more toward women’s selections than men’s. Comedy definitely helps man to like it too.
In a Hawaiian paradise, carefree womanizer Henry Roth meets Lucy Whitemore and gets along with her right away. The next day, upon seeing Henry, Lucy does not remember anything. You have short-term memory loss. Lucy’s father and brother recreate every day just for her with a birthday and all. Every day repeats itself over and over again as if it were a whole new day. Good funny and yes romantic movie.
The Proposal – 2009
STARRING: Ryan Reynolds as Andrew Paxton, Sandra Bullock as Margaret Tate, Craig T. Nelson, Mary Steenburgen, Betty White.
Margaret Tate is a strict editor at a New York publishing house. Canadian Margaret faces deportation due to her expired visa and decides to marry her slave assistant Andrew Paxton on the promise of a great promotion, which he agreed to. Funny goofy humor, a great rom-com movie.
Wedding Crashers – 2005
STARRING: Owen Wilson as John Beckwith, Vince Vaughn as Jeremy Gray, Rachel McAdams, Isla Fisher, Christopher Walken.
Jeremy Gray and John Beckwith are lifelong friends and business partners as divorce mediators. These two intensely share a unique hobby. Weddings from all walks of life and religions collide. Having free fun and meeting girls is what it’s all about. Investigating for the next falling wedding, John and Jeremy end up on a lavish adventure where they meet two rich daughters, Claire and Gloria Cleary, and of course fall in love with them. This then leads them to a large island farm where these girls reside. That’s where the trouble starts and John and Jeremy’s “wedding guest” lies don’t work. More comedy than romance in this fun movie. I’d say this movie leans more towards a boys movie.
ok, Wedding Crashers may be on the verge of being a romantic movie or not. But the movie Overboard and Fifty First Dates definitely fall into the parameters of one of the best romantic movies. Watch any of these movies with your loved one on any quiet romantic evening. I’m sure you won’t regret it.
