My college roommate was a college student who played on the college basketball team. His dream of reaching the nationals as a very good player was shattered when he suffered sports injuries. I, on the other hand, was able to capture it on video. But his will was too strong to be overcome by the incident. Instead, he sparked an idea in her.

After months of rehabilitation and recovery he told me that we should put up a website to contain videos of different sports injuries. I had knowledge of web design and programming, so I accepted. I also saw it as an opportunity to hone my documentary video skills. It took us less than a month and the website was up and only the videos were missing.

The search for sporting events and sports injuries became our shared passion. We were once invited to cover a major football event in Nashville. We arrived at the venue and were overwhelmed by the crowd. What’s even more overwhelming was the size of one of the players who played defense for the team. My video camera was recording when the player took down three players at once. One of the players he knocked down lost his helmet and was crushed by another player’s helmet.

The player’s face was covered in blood and he had a broken nose and obviously dislocated jaw. The medical team ran onto the field to look for him. The crowd was silenced by possibly one of the worst sports injuries they have ever witnessed. I uploaded the video to our website and indeed many were shocked by the event. It became big news online.

After receiving praise and feedback, we went to another sporting event in San Francisco to capture sports injuries. There was a basketball championship. The fans of the opposing team came to the stadium full of enthusiasm and excitement. The star player of one of the teams who was known for dunking him tried to surprise the crowd with his signature move. The opposition couldn’t let it happen, so his master blocker tried to prevent the dunk. But instead of blocking the ball, he hits the dunker’s face with massive force.

The noisy crowd was also still when the player fell to the ground with a thud. The players cleared the scene for medics to attend to the player. He was unconscious the whole time.
