PlayStation Vita – The next portable generation

Sony Vita is Sony Corporation’s answer to a revolutionary new game console. The Next Generation Platform or Portable (NGP) or Sony PlayStation Vita (PSV), which in Latin means life, is now the new trend in portable gaming. This new device is touted as more dynamic gaming or even an attempt to make stationary game consoles portable. Despite the names and intent of this new console, its overall goal is to excite die-hard gamers and even those of us who can appreciate innovative video game technology.

The new console is the successor to the Sony PSP devices and follows the trend among new handheld devices by including a touch screen and many other features that will enhance users’ gaming experiences. NGP features include a bright and beautiful five-inch OLED capacitive front-facing multi-touch screen with a maximum resolution of 960 x 544 pixels in 16 million colors and a 16:9 aspect ratio, dual thumb buttons and pads, a front and rear camera, built-in speakers and microphone, and a multi-touch rear touchpad interface.

Additionally, the console is considered to be very powerful due to its quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 MP Core CPU (the same one found inside the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S no less) and 512 MB of RAM and 128 VRAM. Connectivity includes Bluetooth technology and Sony’s laptop will come in two models, a Wi-Fi only version and a Wi-Fi/3G version with connection via the AT&T Mobile Broadband Network. Other features include:

Multi-touch rear touch panel: this feature has been the most popular among gamers because it provides better manual control for gaming while freeing up the front screen. Sony describes the touchpad as something that allows the user to manipulate almost anything in the game by enabling tasks like tapping, grabbing, tracing, pushing, and pulling hand movements.

Multi-purpose ports and dual memory slots: there is no internal storage on the device; however, there are multipurpose ports for USB connection. In addition, the memory slots include a SIM card (Wi-Fi/3G model only) and also for the proprietary PlayStation Vita card used for personal and downloaded content (sold separately from 4GB to 32GB and is required to play the game). most NGP games).

Cross play: Cross-platform play allows a user to play a game on their PS3 console, pause it, and resume the game on the NPM. Additionally, users can join multiplayer games on the device and play against players on their PS3 consoles.

PlayStation nearby: is a location-based service that uses GPS and sensors to detect other NGP users in the vicinity, allowing users to view other player profiles, current games, and send messages and challenges. Additional features include Partywhich allows friends to form a party, use party chat between games, and enter games as a team; LiveAreawhich allows users to post feedback on other players’ games and sessions and Exercisewhich is an up-to-date source of in-game achievements for friends, such as high scores and real-time trophy unlocks.

Six axis motion sensors: includes three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass that allow active participation in the game for precise tracking of movement during gameplay.

Front and rear cameras: creates reality-like experiences during gameplay. Users can also take photos, stream videos and participate in social networks.

Battery duration: Sony lists the NGP’s battery life as three to five hours for gaming, five hours for video playback, and up to nine hours for music.

UMD (Universal Multimedia Disk): Games for the device will ship on small, proprietary flash-based cards, which means UMDs won’t be compatible with NGP. As a solution, Sony came up with the UMD Passport program.

NGP owners can download a program to their PSP device’s memory, register their UMD discs with a PSN (PlayStation Net) account, and then the UMD will be available for purchase at a discount on the PlayStation Store as a digital download, assuming that the game is activated. the list of available titles.

Wi-Fi/3G connectivity: Although Sony offers 3G connectivity only through the AT&T Broadband Network; the NGP does not have the ability to make phone calls. 3G connectivity basically helps with GPS functionality and provides the ability to download new content and features to the device. AT&T currently offers two plans with no contract requirements to owners: 250MB of data for $15/month or 2GB of data for $25/month.

After reviewing the features of the new generation laptop, it is understandable why gamers are eager to get their hands on it. Sony is definitely sending the message that its new handheld is all about gaming and has the power, touch screen and gaming controls to keep users happily engaged for hours.
