Light makes stains bigger on pearl granite countertops

I was recently speaking with a consumer who wanted larger stains on the surface of his granite countertop. I find it interesting how little people know about stone, granite, marble, slate, whatever! This particular person wanted pearl blue granite countertops installed in their kitchen and wanted the stone to have as many specks as possible. I tried to explain to the lady that a stone like the one she had chosen was natural and came how it came about.

I also explained to the lady that the specks in the stone gave the impression that, under certain lighting conditions, they grew in size. As the light reflects off the pearly marks within the stone, they have a kind of sheen, causing an appearance of increased size in the speckles. Of course, I also explained to the lady that there are other stone shapes that offer this kind of light effect. Starlight Black, a man-made stone formed from quartzite, has specks of glass inside, like mirrors, which also emit a glow when light falls on them.

Unfortunately, this raised the question of whether the stains found on quartz stone could be enlarged by default, but I did say that the vendors supplying this type of countertop stone use pretty much the same machinery to make it, and therefore generally forms the same everywhere. Naturally, there are still batches where the speckles are larger, while there are also batches where the specks are smaller, but this is only due to the way they form when they are formed.

My advice is to go to a showroom and get yourself some strong torch light and then try different types of stone to find the shine that works best for you. The lights can always be mounted in kitchen areas, where they best create a shine on the surface of your stone. Alternatively, you can have a window positioned on the right, to catch the sun’s rays!

Regardless of how you achieve the glitter effect on your stone, in my opinion the glitter effect is a much better way to increase the size of stains rather than having larger stains. Another factor to consider is that if you insist on having larger specks, the price of the stone to be obtained could also increase!
