All was a dream. I used to read Word Up Salt’n’Pepa and Heavy D in the limo. Hang pictures on my wall.

When we are young, we look at the world and see so many possibilities. Each generation has its own movie, rock, or sports stars that they look up to.

Way back when I had the red and black lumberjack with the matching hat.

And, for better or for worse, each generation also has its own memorable fashions … socks, bell bottoms, shoulder pads, camo pants, sample watches, etc. But we are also passionate about things when we are young. Where does that enthusiasm go? Why do so many lose sight of their goals and what really motivates them?

You know very well who you are. Don’t let them stop you, reach for the stars.

Perhaps a bad experience with a lame teacher, coach, or boss damaged our self-esteem. Or we lack the confidence to take risks. We rationalize our situation or find someone or something other than ourselves to blame.

Fortunately, most of us don’t have to take such a momentous leap. Yet too often, we find reason after reason to put off the things we really want to do. We settle for the status quo.

Instead of thinking fearfully about everything that could go wrong, focus on the possibilities. Start small with a few quick strokes to gain confidence. Then build on those with a plan to achieve the overarching goals that you used to excite.

The important thing is to set goals related to what drives you. Sure, negative thoughts still creep into everyone. Fight them as much as you can by focusing on what really matters.

Damn, I like the life I live because I went from negative to positive.
