How to deal with trichomoniasis – Trichomonas vaginalis – The Wise Woman Way

“Herbal remedies for trichomonas are among the least impressive home remedies. None are more than 50 percent effective.” (1)

Trich is short for trichomonas: a four-tailed, unicellular parasitic protozoan. About five million new cases of trichomoniasis are diagnosed in the United States each year.

Trichomoniasis is normally present in a woman’s vagina, intestines, and rectum without causing problems. Trich is sensitive to pH. In women, symptoms of trichomoniasis infection include a thin, frothy, itchy vaginal discharge that is yellowish-green or gray in color and has a foul or fishy odor. Infected men often have no symptoms.

the alkaloid berberine sulfate – found in tinctures of the roots of barberry (Berberine vulgaris), gold fiber (Coptis greenlandica), gold seal (Hydrastis canadensis), Oregon grape (Berberis repens) and yellow root (Xanthorrhiza simplicissima) – is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of – and induces morphological changes in – trichomes in the laboratory and in the field. A study in India found a trichomonas-free rate of 90% in the berberine sulfate group and 95% in the drug group; at the one-month follow-up, 83% of the berberine group and 90% of the drug group were still free of trichomoniasis. The study authors commented on the lack of side effects in those who received berberine. (2) The anti-trichomoniasis dose of any berberine-rich tincture is 10 to 20 drops several times a day for 3 to 4 weeks.

Valerie Ann Worwood suggests a mixture of 5 drops of tea tree essential oil, 4 drops of cypress essential oil, 8 drops of lavender essential oil, and 3 drops of red thyme essential oil to eliminate trichomoniasis.
