One of the most overlooked models in the Mercedes-Benz lineup is the CL-Class. It is based on the same chassis as the flagship car, the S-Class, and is a grand touring coupe that boasts high performance and top-tier luxury and styling. German aftermarket tuning company Famous Parts was able to take this car brimming with potential and create the ultimate luxury cruiser with a host of new aftermarket luxury and performance parts that emphasize the sportiness and power of the CL63. AMG ranging from a new ECU tune to new chassis upgrades like COR forged wheels.
The pre-facelift CL 63 AMG model of the W216 generation was one of the most expensive and powerful models Mercedes-Benz sold at the time. It features a hand-built 6.2-liter V8 engine that comes in two power variants ranging from the original 518 hp at 6,800 rpm and 465 lb-ft. at 5,200 rpm at 560 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 585 lb-ft. at 5,200 rpm with the optional AMG Performance Package. The naturally aspirated engine emitted a thunderous exhaust note and accelerated to 60 mph in less than five seconds. The German Famous Parts team installed a new ECU flash that altered the ignition, timing, fuel injection, and other variables in the engine to produce more power. A new stainless steel exhaust system with integrated valve flaps replaced the stock exhaust system and reduces back pressure for better throttle response. The end result of the updates was a total of 610 horsepower sent to each of the wider COR wheels on the rear axle for quicker acceleration numbers.
Much of the chassis has been updated to accommodate the additional power figures and to improve the overall design of the Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG. The standard wheel and tire setup has been removed and replaced with a larger set of COR wheels for a larger footprint on the front and rear axles. The new wheels were installed in a 10.5 x 21.0-inch configuration on both axles and fitted with 265/30 R21 and 305/25 R21 Continental Sport Contact high-performance tires for an increased amount of grip. To ensure the new COR wheels fit flush with the fenders, the ABC air suspension received an auto-lowering module that lowers the ride height by 25mm, and a set of new H&R spacers were installed on both axles.
The exterior of the Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG was also refreshed by Famous Parts. The German company fitted a Prior Design BlackEdition V1 full widebody kit that extended the front and rear fenders out for a more muscular look. The front end of the sports car received a new bumper with integrated spoiler, a vented bonnet, new side skirts, a restyled bumper with integrated diffuser, and a rear spoiler on the trunk for increased downforce.
