Are bowlers being followed by the batter in cricket these days?

Cricket has always been a batsman’s game in which all the rules of the game have been designed to favor the batsman and not the bowler. From the beginning, the game has leaned toward hitting. It is actually because “reactive science” is at the core of cricket and the excitement of the game comes from the response a batter can give to the ball that is thrown at him. Also, just look at the cricket audience, have you ever seen someone not hungry for their favorite team’s races? Scoring the most runs is what anyone wants to see from their team. It’s simple, taking more wickets didn’t make anybody win a game if their hitting side wasn’t doing its job properly. If I’m not mistaken even during colonial times when cricket was played in the colonies, the British clique only hit, leaving the bowling part to the subjects. Batting was always considered superior to bowling, as the excitement of the game came from how good the batter’s response is to the ball thrown by the bowler. Also, how often have you seen people jump to their feet after a bowler throws a pointy ball or a wide ball; Bowling is only celebrated when the wicket is taken, where all batters limits are greeted with great excitement. Not to mention that in this era of virtual cricket tournaments, as takes place on fantasy cricket sites, players are more concerned with picking the right batsmen who score a big run, as they can bring a big win in cash to the player who is there to play fancy cricket. Compared to batsmen, bowlers are less economical as the scope of scoring is limited. Therefore, to play cricket games online, it is important to study the batsmen very thoroughly.

All the rules of cricket are based on the benefit of the batter, starting from a proper pitch for batting to the sizes of the limits and even restricting the bowler from taking certain shots.

That said, however, it is also true that the hype has gotten real over the past 20 years to help the hitter score more. Two decades ago, we were able to see hitters enter the field without much protective gear against the attack of the bowling pins. The over were more and the test matches were important where the batsman could not hit the limits much against the prolonged attack of the bowlers. However, this turned out to be less productive in regards to the audience, as the test matches seemed a bit boring and people liked the rhythm of the ODI with limited exits where the excitement is real. Limited matches became a haven for cricketers as the limits got smaller, the pitch got flatter and batter-friendly, the bats have improved and have better balance, better handles, and in generally a better shape, also known as ‘SUPERBATS’. In addition, it also went into the improved protection gears seen for hitters. So yeah, indeed nowadays teams compete for more runs with each other, making it a batting competition rather than Bat Vs Ball.
