Ancient Egypt Fish Tank Decor

There are numerous ancient civilizations that have impressive fish tank decorations these days. These include the Mayan, Asian and the ever famous Greek ruins. Using any of these would create stunning scenes from times gone by, producing an air of wonder and discovery in your own room.

The only ancient civilization that I personally love to use in my tank designs are the ancient Egyptians. Who has not seen at least one photograph of the Great Pyramids or the imposing and powerful Sphinx? With the cool and extremely detailed tank ornaments you can get these days, you’ll be able to bring the exact replica of the Egyptian landscape to your aquarium.

With the Egyptian tank decoration, you basically have a couple of options. You can create an outdoor scene, an indoor scene, or simply use Egyptian artifacts.

To create an outdoor Egyptian scene, you’d be using replicas of the massive structures that are synonymous with Egypt. These would include the pyramids and the Sphinx. This is placed on top of sand-colored gravel to give it the impression of being in the desert. If you plan to use plants, they should not be of the leafy variety. Java Moss is an option you can consider. To make the theme work, a great idea is to put a fish tank background that represents a desert scene. This would give a 3D effect to the entire design.

For the interior effect, he would use interior structures such as Egyptian columns and the pharaoh’s sarcophagus. Arrange them to look like a scene from an archaeological dig. The gravel would still be sand colored. As a backdrop, you can use one that depicts Egyptian hieroglyphics or a rock. These days you could get 3D rock backgrounds where the rocks stick out instead of a flat print. This makes the theme look much more realistic. Being indoors, I wouldn’t put any plants in because it might make the theme look weird. You can place rocks if you want, just make them look like they are coming crashing down from a temple roof. This means simply scattering them around the decoration. Try not to get smooth faced river rocks, the ones you do get should look like they were once bricks that made up the walls.

Egyptian artifacts are new additions to the fish tank decoration scene. The most common you can find are Egyptian vases. Although they are just aquarium decoration, they are made to look extremely authentic. What I love about Egyptian vases is the holes that they always have on the side. These make amazing caves for fish and if you’ve been following my posts all these years, you’ll know I’m a fan of aquarium caves. Aside from vases, another cool tank ornament that I love is a pharaoh bust. The bust is golden in color and looks very majestic. With these ornaments, the placement of normal aquatic plants around them, as well as the use of other types of gravel, are not a problem.

The key point here is that your design should look old. It has to look like an archeological photo you might see in National Geographic magazine. Look online for images to help you get an idea of what to look for.
