There have also been some pretty horrible teams. Some of these stripes are pretty scary. You may not believe how bad some of these baseball clubs have been.

The statistics included in this article are up to and including the 2005 season.

From 1919 to 1964, the New York Yankees had a winning season every year except 1925. Their best two years were DiMaggio and Dickey’s 1939 when they went 106-45, a winning percentage of 702. Even better, the Yankees of 1927 they had a winning percentage of 714. Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig had something to do with it. The Yankees have scored 79,003 runs since they were a major league team. They have given up 68,192 runs.

The lowest winning percentages are The Devil Rays at 401%, followed by The Padres at 459% and The Phillies with a 468 winning percentage.

While looking at the futility of 1930 to 1943, the St Louis Browns had a bit of a slump. They had a losing record every year and over the 14 years they finished with 715 wins and 1325 losses (350 winning percentage). Their high water or should I say low water mark of 111 losses came in 1939. In 1946 they started losing again. From 1946 inclusive through 1956 they were 645 – 1048 for a winning percentage of 380.

The Phillies have their own sad story. From 1918 to 1931 they had a record of 786 – 1310. Every year he was a loser. In 1932 they had a winning record only to lose again in 1933. This continued until 1948. During this time they had a record of 888 – 1555. A winning percentage of 363. So from 1918 to 1948 they had a winning season. It must have been tough being a Phillie fan back then.

The Philadelphia Athletics won 736 games between 1934 and 1946. They also lost 1,245 games. These 13 years produced a winning percentage of 372. The town of Brotherly Love must have had some grizzled summer days with its two baseball teams losing so much.

By contrast, the Brooklyn Dodgers won 1,125 games and lost 656 from 1946 to 1956. During this 11-year period they finished first or second every year except one in which they finished third. His six pennants and one World Series typified his winning percentage of 631 during this time period.
