Kurt Wallander is a detective who solves great crimes. The only problem is, he seems to be the dumbest detective ever. Wallander doesn’t follow the rules, and people get hurt as a result.
Wallander solves the crimes, but he does it in a way that hurts people. You cannot hold on to a relationship. He can’t even get along with his own daughter.
In one episode, Kurt Wallander searches for information on a suspect. You are not allowed to enter the perpetrators’ property. The gate to the property is closed, but Kurt Wallander decides to ignore all the warnings.
Kurt has a fellow police detective accompanying him. She asks him to obtain a court order before trying to contact the suspect again. Kurt ignores his request and proceeds to jump over the fence and trespass on the property.
Why is Kurt so stupid? On the initial visit to the suspect, Kurt noticed that the suspect had dogs. Yes, you read that right, various dogs that can bite and injure humans. Did that stop Kurt from jumping over the wall and trying to find evidence without a warrant? No!
Wallander not only gets into trouble, he drags others near him and puts them in danger. So he jumps the fence and his detective partner decides to follow him. The other detective was just turning his back on her, as a good detective should.
Kurt immediately sees a dog tied up. There is no one else around, so he assumes the coast is clear. The other detective has to remind the fool that there were two dogs on the property. Suddenly, the other dog attacks Kurt Wallander and the other detective. The dog jumps on Kurt and takes him to the ground.
A police detective looking for information probably has some form of protection available. Kurt Wallander couldn’t think that far ahead. It got a little big on the forearm. The detective who was with him had to sit back and watch in horror as this dog proceeds to take Kurt Wallander’s arm like a turkey at a Thanksgiving dinner. You don’t know what to do and you don’t have a clear goal for the dog. Then she has to wait for a clean look. Could it get worse?
The other dog that is tied finds a way to break free. Now there is another dog approaching the detective. She fires a few rounds into the air. The charging dog does not stop and she ends up putting him on the ground. The other dog that was on Wallander gets away enough that she stops him too.
The detective does everything she’s supposed to do. She protects Wallander. They can breathe for a few moments. What happens next is just amazing. The two detectives are talking and the suspect walks over, swings a sledgehammer, and hits the detective on the head. Wallander does nothing. Just be in awe when this bully punches his partner like he’s a major league baseball home run derby champion.
Kurt Wallander is a dumb detective. This is just one incident. There are many more. For a guy who’s smart enough to solve complex cases, he sure can do some of the dumbest things imaginable.
