NEGOTIATORS

Everyone thinks of himself as a negotiator in some way. Since you were a boy or a girl you already made a deal. You were exchanging something with a friend or relative because you wanted to make a deal. You made a deal with your parents. If you followed your rules, you traded your obedience for a gift or reward. How many times have you heard mom or dad say “Okay son, if you get certain grades on your report card, I’ll give you $$$. Remember those days?

Well, now that you’ve grown up, attended school, or survived the neighborhood trials, you’ve no doubt experienced the thrill of being a negotiator. When you reached a certain age, and it varies with everyone, your friends and family told you that you had too much on your plate. Has anyone ever told you that? When I was a kid, I would always hear my cousins or friends say to me, “You have so many projects going on at once, why don’t you just finish ONE thing? You never seem to finish anything.”

I bet you’ve heard that more than once. Well, here’s something I want to pass on to you. This type of activity is a blessing. Yes, you’re hurt and you don’t know it. You see, all of us have a sixth sense. It works like this. Remember when you were young and mom was in another room? She couldn’t see you through the walls, but she was yelling, “Tommy, get out of your daddy’s crate.” How did he know you were snooping through dad’s drawer? It was her sixth sense. The Good Lord gave all Moms a sixth sense. How else could they be so protective? You do not believe me? How about Granny when she knew when you were in trouble? You could never lie to him when you got home because his sixth sense tasted different.

We all have a sixth sense. Some people realize it and use it and others are not aware of it and go through life without ever using it. This is how your sixth sense works as a negotiator. Many times you have projects to do or deals to make. They are in your mind or organized on your computer. Most use never organizes our thoughts. So, we lose some great ideas.

Have you ever driven your car, had an idea that was awesome BUT forgot about it? You try to remember it and you can’t. So now we’re back to having too much on your plate and your sixth sense. Please do not think that this is a psychology lesson for a layman. This is an example of the things that very successful people have done over the years and we marvel at their ability to make things happen.

Do we call these people dreamers, visionaries, negotiators, crazy, mentally unbalanced or what? I call them “negotiators”. You are a negotiator but you don’t know it. This is what happens to negotiators. Yes, they have a lot of things on their plate. Yes, they hear their friends tell them to do one thing and then keep going until they have a clean slate.

Well, if you’re like me and you’re one of those people who seem to have so much to do, this is what happens to me and others I know. When you go to bed at night, you have something on your mind that makes you get up and go to your computer or desk. Suddenly your sixth sense tells you that if you take project #4 and put it with project #17 and then combine them with project #22, you will have recognized that each separate project has something in common. with the rest. You and your sixth sense have put these projects together. Some refer to the sixth sense as the subconscious mind, but I don’t have the qualifications of a “psychiatrist” to elaborate. I just know that sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, go to my computer and make deals. Then I go back to bed and sleep like a baby. Yes, I am also a dreamer, a crackpot, a negotiator or whatever you want to call me, but you are also a negotiator. Just be aware of it and let it happen.

Our mom lived to be one hundred and two years old. I will always remember her telling us that “the body follows the mind”. At the age of one hundred, she was still sewing on five different sewing machines at the same time. At her age, she appeared in a Pfaff magazine. Are her genes passed on? I don’t know, but I bet if you start listening to your subconscious mind, your life could last longer.
