Costa Rica Beaches – From the Gold Coast to Montezuma

Some of the most incredible features of Costa Rica are the famous Costa Rican beaches. The coast of Guanacaste, known as the “Golden Coast”, has the most pristine beaches in Costa Rica. This coast has the largest number of beach resorts in Costa Rica and is a popular destination for tourists. With the opening of the Liberia International Airport, this area will be even more crowded with tourists.

There are several main Costa Rican beaches just south of Guanacaste. Montezuma is on the inland edge of the Gulf of Nicoya. This Costa Rican beach is a popular destination for younger foreign tourists. Montezuma has smaller hotels and is close to the Cabo Blanco National Park. Naranjo is also a Costa Rican beach on the Gulf of Nicoya along the inland edge. This beach is considered remote compared to other beaches in Costa Rica, but Naranjo is actually not difficult to get to.

Puntarenas is the former main port of the Pacific. This is the main city on the Pacific coast and it is very crowded. However, it remains one of the most popular beaches in Costa Rica. It has a promenade, many restaurants and hotels. It is the most industrialized of Costa Rica’s beaches and has several marinas and commercial fishing operations.

The southernmost part of the Pacific coast features several small but popular Costa Rican beaches. This area is well preserved and is the site of the largest national park in the nation, Corcovado. Corcovado Beach offers tours through the rainforest, snorkeling, and sea kayaking. Isla de Cano, an Indian burial ground site, is nearby. Golfito is also a beach in the South Pacific of Costa Rica. It is located on the inner edge of the Golfo Dulce. This Costa Rican beach is home to many secluded hotels and lodges hidden among the lush tropical jungle.
