London The royal family is one of the main tourist attractions in London. As of today, Buckingham Palace represents the British monarch and the royal family. It was built by the Duke of Buckingham in 1705, however in 1761 King George III purchased it as a private residence for his Queen Charlotte and called it “the Queen’s House”. It wasn’t until Queen Victoria in 1837 moved there that it finally became the official royal palace of the British monarch.

One of the most interesting uses of Buckingham Palace was the presentation of Debutantes. The brief presentation of the aristocratic girls to the Monarch would take place in the throne room. These girls would “go out” into society to try to present themselves as suitable for marriage. However, in 1958, the Queen discontinued this practice and replaced them with Garden Parties.
