Flowtron BK-80D 80 Watt Electronic Insect Killer Review

The Flowtron BK-80D 80 Watt Electronic Fly Swatter with 1-1/2 Acre Coverage is the ideal purchase for anyone looking for a reliable, economical and effective electric fly swatter. Haven’t we all endured agonizing summers where the sweltering heat and heavy air were compounded by the incessant buzz of pesky flies and gnats? Personally, I hate summer, but this electronic fly swatter makes the season much more bearable, especially for those who don’t know how to kill flies or aren’t that handy with a fly swatter.

As with most bug zappers, this device is most effective when placed in a yard or garden. To increase his mortality rate, he uses electric light bulbs to heat a cartridge containing chemicals that attract insects, tricking their senses into passing himself off as a living creature. As the insects are attracted to the device, they receive a lethal electrical shock.

The good

I felt the biggest advantage of this fly swatter was its ease of maintenance. Most other bug zappers tend to trap bugs inside the zapper, meaning they need to be cleaned frequently, a chore that is not only annoying, but also quite unpleasant. In my experience, trapped bugs can cause serious short circuits, especially if the zapper uses a round wire system. This bug spray didn’t give me those problems because of its vertically oriented power grid and it works just as well today as it did the day I bought it. I’m also not particularly overly blessed with domestic skills. Simple tasks like changing light bulbs are often overwhelming, but the bulbs in this contraption were held in place with plastic clips and were easy to remove and replace.

As another bonus, the Flowtron BK-80D electric fly swatter is definitely one of the most powerful and effective electronic fly swatters out there. I live in the New Orleans area, where the ever-present swamps and forests mean that residents are constantly plagued by swarms of flies and mosquitoes for most of the year. Before I had this device, I couldn’t even sit on my patio for five minutes without being bombarded by an army of gnats and mosquitoes trying to feast on my blood. Now, I’ve managed to put up a nice little terrace that I can enjoy even in the height of summer. This 80-watt mosquito killer is absolutely ruthless when it comes to killing pests. The bugs simply have to briefly brush against the zap bar before they drop dead.

the not so good

A small annoyance is the sound that this insecticide makes. The loud zap can often be jarring. In the middle of summer, I could literally hear the device turn off every 2 seconds and sometimes it was hard to fall asleep. My wife mentioned that it was a good thing we didn’t have a pet because, as other guests have complained, her dogs and cats have been constantly harassed by noise. However, every time I hear that sound now, I imagine a bloodsucking mosquito falling dead to the ground. That, I think, is a fair trade-off for the mild noise pollution, especially since it’s not an issue in seasons other than summer.

Value for money

This fly swatter comes with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty, but trust me, with its excellent durability and functionality, you probably won’t need it. It’s definitely at the top of its price range, but rest assured, this valuable investment is ultimately cheaper than going through several cheap fly swatters that don’t get the job done right.
