Veterans Coping With Burden With EFT

Most veterans are overwhelmed when they think about their past and even consider starting to heal it. I can often see this feeling go over their heads, closing them up and creating a wall around them that seems impossible to break through. It is difficult for them to trust a “stranger” with their trauma, and feeling a good relationship with a non-military person takes courage.

It is important to address the feeling of overwhelming as a separate important issue that deserves attention. With EFT, I like to tap in the following way: KP: Even though I am completely overwhelmed right now, I choose to be surprisingly okay with it. The powerful second part of this statement feels appropriate and doable even if clients do not believe that EFT works or that it is possible to overcome the pressure they feel.

When we acknowledge the feeling of being overwhelmed, we also affirm that we understand without explanation and can relate to what the client is saying. We feel comfortable helping the client with what he or she needs and we do not have an agenda of our own that he or she is not comfortable with. If it is important for a client to bring it up at the beginning of a session, it is also important to me. The client is in charge of what we tap, and this is a wonderful way to show it.

When we are sensitive, compassionate and respectful like this, we create a good relationship and allow even traumatized people to trust us more easily. When we demonstrate that we are not asking someone to go places they may not be prepared for, we also communicate that it is safe to talk to them. The magic of EFT is that even tapping on overwhelm in such a general way is very effective and causes relaxation and release from fear. You can also set the stage for deeper work when the client is ready.

Therefore, starting an EFT session by acknowledging and tapping on the feeling of overwhelming is an effective way to build rapport and trust, show the client that he or she is in the driver’s seat during a session, and create positive results that they can lead to more successful joint work. .

It sets the stage for successful EFT sessions that can heal in wonderful ways.
