Types of computer viruses and how to get rid of them

A computer virus is a type of very malicious software that someone has written to gain access to your personal files on your computer. This can put you at risk of identity theft, as a third party can obtain your personal banking and credit card information. The types of computer viruses we see can replicate and spread.

Here we are going to see the types of computer viruses:

resident viruses

This virus will stay on your computer in RAM memory and will corrupt all the files and programs on your system

direct acting virus

This type of virus replicates and infects files in the directory or folder of your PC. Perform these operations when your computer boots

overwrite viruses

This type of computer virus deletes the information contained in the files it infects, rendering them basically unusable. You can only get rid of it by deleting the file completely.

boot virus

A boot virus affects the part of a floppy or hard drive called the boot sector, a critical part of that disk, because the information is stored with a program that allows the PC to boot to the disk. But we don’t see many of these anymore because portable drives aren’t that popular anymore.

directory viruses

These types of computer viruses change the paths that show where the file is located. When you run the infected program, you are running a virus without even knowing it.

file infectors

The most common types of computer viruses. They infect programs or executable files. They are often found in free programs downloaded from the Internet.

Companion viruses

They get this name because they accompany other files that already exist on your computer.

fat virus

FAT stands for “File Allocation Table”. This type of virus often results in loss of information

Very similar to a virus, but not difficult to get rid of.

Trojans or Trojan horses/logic bombs

They differ from viruses in that they do not reproduce.

The best way to get rid of these harmful intruders is to use a spyware removal program. It will scan your PC for problems, remove them, and work to fix them in the future.
