The tires on many motorcycles, including BMW bikes, are tubeless. There are advantages to Buy BMW tire wheels, but they also have disadvantages that can cause problems if you’re not aware of them.

One of the advantages is that you don’t have to carry a spare inner tube. If you get a flat it’s simple enough to use the included repair kit, smear some sealant around the inside of the tire (to prevent air loss) and insert a special plug that seals the hole. This is much easier than repairing a punctured tube, which requires finding and removing the punctured section of the tube, putting in a replacement tube, and inflating it.

Another advantage is that you’re less likely to have a puncture because the liquid sealant in the tubeless tire can seal smaller holes caused by glass, flint or other road debris. This makes tubeless a good option for riders who frequent rough roads and want to minimize the chance of getting a flat.

Are BMW Tires Tubeless?

Using a tubeless setup also reduces the weight of your bike, because there’s no inner tube to add bulk. But because a tubeless tire has no air in it, it needs to be properly inflated to keep the tyre bead on the rim. A loose tyre can quickly deflate, leaving you stranded.

Some people worry that hitting even modestly sized road debris will bend the rim of their tubeless tyre enough to allow the tire to move to the center of the rim and lose all air very suddenly. This isn’t a concern with tube type tires, since the rim could cut the tube; but it may be a problem for a tubeless tire.

There are rims designed for tubeless use, and there is a special valve stem that’s available that will work on a standard tube-type rim, too. The only drawback is that the rims with these designs have a rounded area where the valve stem comes through, rather than the typical flattened spot for tube-type rims.

Tubeless tyres also require a tight fit between the tyre bead and the rim, which can make them tricky to mount. If you don’t have the right tools or aren’t comfortable with the process, it can take a long time to get a tubeless tyre fitted and can involve cursing. There isn’t any one standard that rim and tyre manufacturers must adhere to, and there are wide differences in both the size and stiffness of tyres and rims.

And finally, some tubeless tyres can be difficult to remove from the rim if you’re not careful. This is usually because of a small leak that can be hard to detect without a good light. You might have to apply a lot of pressure with multiple tyre levers to get the bead off, and it’s easy to damage the tyre or the rim in the process. This is why it’s a good idea to use a quality tool set and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
